Proposed Newcomer Centre Proposal for Durham Region

After a year and a half of consideration and community consultation, a proposal was submitted to Citizenship and Immigration Canada in February 2007 for creation of Durham Region’s first Newcomer Information Centre. (click here to read the full proposal)

This proposal represents a starting point in ongoing discussions between the federal government and the Region. A similar model, referred to as a “Welcome Centre” model, where services to new immigrants including settlement, language and employment are physically available and delivered from a single location, will be studied in the fall of 2007.
