Assess current and future labour supply. Develop action strategies to address industry needs. |
| Local Industry Tours for Secondary School Teachers - Organize tours for secondary school teachers of local industries that represent Durham’s emerging growth sectors. (sustainable energy, automotive/transportation, IT, health and wellness, agriculture and biosciences) |

| 2. Women's Conference: The First Step is to Start - The 2009-2010 partnership will focus on an all-day forum for women who have an employment goal but who are not in the labour force. |
| 3. Universal Action Centre for Displaced Workers - Conduct a feasibility study and based on results write a funding proposal to create a Universal Action Centre, supported by a peer helper network,available to all displaced workers regardless of their union affiliation or employment sector. |
| 4. 7th Annual Farm Tour - City of Pickering - Farm tour for elected representatives and administrators, provincial and federal government members, advisory committee members, educators, agricultural leaders and media, to inform about issues facing agriculture, new technologies, impact of legislation, and rural economic development. |
| 5. Transition of Displaced Workers - Continue to work with the education sector, MTCU, service providers, labour and business-industry to identify appropriate retraining options for displaced workers to accelerate successful transition and return to the labour force. |
| 6. Local Diversity and Immigration Partnership Council - DRLTB has representation on the newly-formed council and will lead outreach to the business community. The council will create inclusivity action strategies, including support to initiatives that will improve employment outcomes for newcomers and immigrants. |
| 7. Construction Sector Conference - Exhibit at “Future Building”, a construction career exposition taking place in Bowmanville April 7-9, 2009. It has been organized to present a realistic view of apprenticeship opportunities and other careers in Ontario’s construction industry. |
8. Nursing Careers Event - Host a career information session where secondary school students and teachers can meet with faculty and healthcare professionals to learn about the diversity of opportunity for nurses in acute/specialty care, mental health, community care and gerontology/long term care.

| 9. Industry Tours for Educators - Co-host a pilot tour of local industries for educators. Provide the opportunity for teachers to learn about current business challenges and practices, career opportunities for youth, skill requirements, impact of technologies, research and industry developments from business directly. |

Business Retention and Expansion in Brock Township - In consultation with industry, municipal government, service providers and the economic development committee, identify labour force challenges including youth out-migration and skilled labour shortages that were reported in the 2008 Brock Township BR+E (Business Retention and Expansion) Study. Co-facilitate the development of a 1-2 year comprehensive action plan to address these challenges and communication strategy. |

| 2007 Proposed Newcomer Centre Proposal for Durham Region - After a year and a half of consideration and community consultation, a proposal was submitted to Citizenship and Immigration Canada in February 2007 for creation of Durham Region’s first Newcomer Information Centre. This proposal represents a starting point in ongoing discussions between the federal government and the Region. A similar model, referred to as a “Welcome Centre” model, where services to new immigrants including settlement, language and employment are physically available and delivered from a single location, will be studied in the fall of 2007. |
